Eyes Wide Open
Synopsis
What is actually happening in this South America at the beginning of the new millennium?
The socio-political moment is undoubtedly unique. But how to portray the spirit of what is happening in a single film?
About three years ago, director Gonzalo Arijón asked himself these questions, and finally grabbed hold of his camera in one hand, and took The Open Veins of Latin America - Eduardo Galeano’s book- in the other (the very same book Chavez gave to Obama as a present) and set off. Brazil, Bolivia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Uruguay… the aim was to understand and get to know the men and women who, in their everyday struggles, have shaped this singular moment in history.
A journey both political and poetic.
